The stock market is currently one of the most talked-about topics in Nepal. At least one person will be talking about IPOs and the stock market, whether on social media or in tea cafes and marketplaces.
If you have any queries about how to get started in Nepal's stock market, this will be a comprehensive guide to getting started. In this blog article, I will attempt to explain everything in simple terms so that you can enter Nepal's share bazaar.
There are other things you should be aware of before entering the market, but that is a topic for another time. In this blog post, you'll find some basic step-by-step instructions for getting started investing in Nepal's stock market.
Getting started with stock market
Let's look at the requirements for getting started in Nepal's stock market.
- Learn about the basic terms in the stock market
- Create a Bank account
- Create a Demat account
- Create a Trading Account
To gain a better understanding of the market, you must first understand certain basic concepts such as primary market, secondary market, IPOs, FPOs, right shares, dividends, and so on. Here's a comprehensive blog post that covers all of the key stock market phrases. Even if you've already begun trading in the stock market, it's worth a look. I'm confident that this post will broaden your stock market understanding.
How to Open a Bank Account
Although stocks are kept through a separate account known as a Demat account, a bank account is required to get started in Nepal's stock market.
To apply for IPOs, get dividends from stocks you own, and many other things, you'll need a bank account. You don't need to open a new bank account if you already have one. However, if you don't already have one, I recommend starting one with your bank, which has its own capital market.
It gets easier to open a Demat account when you open a bank account with a bank that has its own capital market (I'll go over this in more detail in the following section below).
In Nepal, you must be 18 years old to open a bank account in your own name. The paperwork needed to create a new bank account differ by bank, but all banks demand government-issued credentials such as a citizenship certificate, passport, or voter id card, as well as recent passport-sized pictures.
You must open a Demat account with a beneficiary if you are under the age of 18 or if you want to register a Demat account for a younger sibling or child.
Creating a Depository Receipt Account
The most crucial aspect of entering the stock market is establishing a Demat Account. A Demat account is where you keep your stocks and valuables, and you can't start investing in the stock market without one.
Demat accounts are opened with a Depository Participants(DP) licensed by SEBON, just like bank accounts are. In Nepal, many stockbrokers, banks, and merchant bankers offer DP services. You can open a Demat account with any of the financial institutions that provide this service.
Here's all you need to know about opening a demat account in Nepal.
When you open a Demat account, you'll be given a unique BOID number. You will need to obtain a CRN number from your bank once you have opened a Demat account. It's a one-of-a-kind code that indicates your bank account is linked to your Demat account.
You can open a Demat account with a DP and link your Demat account to any number of bank accounts. You can do so by requesting a CRN number from your financial institution. After this you are eligible to apply for ipos in Nepal. For more information about how to apply for ipo in Nepal click here.
Creating Trading account
To create a trading account that will serve as a middleman in the NEPSE marketplace, you will require a brokerage company. You can buy and sell stocks in a few simple steps, and these brokerage firms will handle all other responsibilities such as putting the proceeds from your sold stocks into your bank account and placing the purchased equities in your demat accounts.
In Nepal, there are 50 brokers. Any of these brokerage houses will let you open a trading account.
But before visiting any brokers to open an account for trading, I'll advise bearing some of these things in mind.
- Select a broker who pays bills on time and promptly deposits shares into your account. You might inquire about the broker's nature from their former clients. You can avoid these disappointments later on by bearing in mind the numerous complaints I have heard from brokers.
- If the broker fits the first requirement, a closer broker might be a better choice. It's possible that you'll need to go to the brokerage office to open an account, put down collateral, and even to buy and sell stocks. Therefore, choosing a broker office that is simple to get to may be preferable.
The next step after selecting a brokerage business is to set up a stock trading account. The majority of stock brokers demand that you physically be present in the broker office in order to open an account. However, a lot of brokers now offer the option of opening an online trading account.
So, after selecting a brokerage firm, the next step would be to go to their website and discover its contact information. Saving these contact information in your contact book would also be a smart choice because you'll need it occasionally.
This can be done in two ways
- Opening by physically being available at broker office
- Opening trading account online
A passport-sized photo of you, a digital copy of your citizenship certificate, and maybe your BOID verification document are required (you can verify that your BOID is valid by yourself as well).
You will need a photo and scanned copy of the guardian's citizenship if you are setting up a trading account for minors, as well as a photo and scanned copy of the minor's birth certificate.
You must wait until you receive an email at the email address you specified on the registration form for online trading after submitting the paperwork, whether online or offline. If you didn't apply for online trading, you'll need to go to the broker's office or give them a call to get the 10-digit unique client code you'll need to buy and sell stocks. If you have your client code, you may now start buying and selling stocks by going to the brokerage office or calling the broker to place your orders over the phone.
I hope this article will help you to get started in stock market. Make sure to share this with your friends and family.saring is caring😊😊
Enjoy investing.
